How to Paint a Realisitic Sky with Clouds
Two Lessons. NEXT AVAILABLE DATES: Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st September 2023 – Time: 10:30am to 12:30
This is a two-day course featuring two lessons. Each lesson is two hours in duration. The price is £100 for both lessons. All art materials will be provided and there will be a short break for refreshments halfway through the lesson. We shall be painting onto 16 x 12 inch canvas boards.
Lesson One – Wednesday 20th September 2023 - Time: 10:30am to 12:30
In the first lesson, we will use Alkyd oil paints to paint the first layer of the sky using a colour wash. Then we will define the clouds in the painting. I will demonstrate a brush technique that results in the softening of the cloud edges and also show how to create a realistic hue which represents the shadows in the clouds.

Lesson Two – Thursday 21st September 2023 - Time: 10:30am to 12:30
In the second lesson, we will paint a second, final layer for the sky - using the same colour that was applied on the first layer - to give it improved saturation of colour and to reduce the amount of visible brush strokes from the first layer. We will then turn our attention to the clouds and define them so they have greater realism. We will use a tint for the cloud highlights. At the end of the lesson, you will be provided with an artist factsheet and will be able to take your painting home with you.
