Lee Bay in Summer
Coastal Living and Art
My painting, Lee Bay in Summer, is inspired by a beautiful small bay on the picturesque North Devon coastline — a place that has always held a special charm for me. Lee Bay is one of those spots that feels almost timeless, where the rhythm of the sea and the gentle movement of walkers along the coastal path create a quiet harmony. When I set out to paint this scene, I wanted to express not only the visual beauty of the place but also the warmth and peace it evokes on a bright summer's day.
In the bay itself, I painted a few paddle boarders, their figures small but full of movement. I liked how they subtly balance the stillness of the sea and the solidity of the cliffs, adding a touch of narrative to the view.
Fine Art for Modern Interiors
Presentation is vital to the integrity of my work, which is why this painting is housed in a muted silver-coloured wooden frame. The stylish frame, and its white inner slip, is not merely a border; it's an extension of the painting's aesthetic, elevating its presence while offering collectors peace of mind that the artwork has been professionally prepared for long-term enjoyment and protection.
Summer Coastal Painting
I worked with professional quality oil paints to bring the scene to life, layering the colours carefully to create depth and vibrancy. The sky in the painting is clear and full of light: that crisp, invigorating blue that seems to stretch endlessly on a fine summer afternoon.
The headland, covered in lush greenery, contrasts beautifully with the open water. I spent a lot of time on the grass and leaves, highlighting them with touches of light to capture the effect of the midday sun overhead. Those small, glowing details were my way of conveying the energy and brightness of the scene.
Contemporary Seascape Painting
As a professional seascape painter, I devote immense time, care, and emotional energy to each painting I create — and Lee Bay in Summer is no exception. This piece embodies hours of meticulous layering and refinement, each brushstroke carefully considered to build up the tranquil yet ever-changing character of the North Devon coastline I know so well.
The Serene Light of Summer Depicted in a Painting
More than anything, my aim with Lee Bay in Summer was to capture the play of light: that beautiful, fleeting quality that transforms everything it touches. For me, the joy of painting comes from trying to hold onto those moments of illumination, when nature feels both simple and extraordinary.
Lee Bay in Summer speaks to those who find poetry in landscapes and serenity in the sea. It's an invitation to experience the coast not just as a place, but as a feeling — rendered with precision and heart.
