The Love of Sailing

The World of Sailing

Becoming part of the sailing community, attending prestigious yacht races and regattas as well as owning a fine boat or superyacht, may seem to be an exclusive membership for some, but sailing has been accessible to people regardless of their status or wealth for thousands of years: people have been drawn to the water and have garnered skills to build water craft, as well as to sail these craft and navigate well.

Even today, in this hi-tech modern age with its new boat building materials, people can still be found globally who build boats in the traditional way using traditional materials and know-how. Some of these may be small watercraft, designed for only one or two individuals, and are used for either work (for lake, river or coastal fishing), for commuting, or simply experiencing the pure enjoyment of being out on the water.

Such boat builders may be quite poor and lead uncomplicated lives, but happily pass on their boat lore to the next generation. It really doesn't matter whether a person is wealthy or poor, as there is an undeniable love of sailing in all such individuals: a love that goes completely beyond money itself.

Where does this love arise from? Fundamentally, it comes from a natural inner drive or deep calling to explore the water, by being on the water itself. It is the water that draws them, whether that's a great winding river, lake or an impressive ocean. Sailing is the love of motion and exploration and the understanding and meeting of all the challenges that sailing brings.

Business men and women who have the means to fund their passion for sailing and the lifestyle that encompasses, find great happiness in being on the water and kindly sharing that experience with others — who perhaps don't have the means to own their own boat just yet — but helps them to lay the important foundation for the experiences and responsibilities that will come one day when they do finally own their own sailing vessel, whether it is a small wooden boat or a modern luxury yacht for cruising along the coast.

People who love to sail understandably become very attached to their vessels. It is not a mere whim that they choose this lifestyle, it goes much further. An inner compulsion to experience the wind, the light, the water, the motion, the camaraderie and the journey that it eventually leads to, all combine into moments of fulfilment that are never lost, in heart nor memory.

A Symbol of Exclusivity

Maritime paintings have long been admired for their timeless elegance. Today, with the rise of luxury yacht ownership among business executives, successful hard-working individuals, and even celebrities, the love for exclusive sailing-related art has increased. Maritime paintings remain a prestigious and valuable investment.

In some ways, owning a yacht, superyacht or a well-built classic wooden boat can be a statement of success, but it is just as likely to be the fulfilment of a humble lifelong wish to sail and one day own such a boat. Maritime art complements this lifestyle dream perfectly. Collectors seek bespoke yacht paintings that reflect their passion for the sea, reinforcing their identity as connoisseurs of fine art and high quality.
